A young man who one day left Mexicali to follow Christ, returned to his homeland surrounded by family, friends, and legionary brothers to receive the diaconal ordination from Mons. Jesús José Herrera, bishop of the Diocese of Nuevo Casas Grande.
In 2009, as a university student studying Law, Jorge participated in the Easter Holy Week evangelization missions organized by Juventud y Familia Misionera and the Regnum Christi of Mexicali, and at some point mentioned how the experience of serving others awakened in him the desire for the priesthood.
“God had already chosen you, had already called you to a special vocation in the Legion of Christ” (Mons. Jesús José Herrera, on the day of the diaconal ordination).
That same year, Jorge decided to begin a vocational process with the aim of entering the Legion of Christ candidate program.
Once in the Legion, he underwent a formation process of 12 years. He spent several years working pastorally in El Salvador, promoting vocations in Central America. In addition to that country, he visited Guatemala and Costa Rica, where he also collaborated in youth ministry.
Father Jorge describes those years as a process where he had to bring out the best in himself and the best of the gift that God gave him.
In his homily, Mons. Jesús José Herrera commented: «God has pronounced your name, has set His eyes on you. And He has revealed what He wants for you through the discernment of all these long twelve years. Today you receive, dear Jorge Alberto, the sacrament of Orders in the diaconate grade. It is God’s response to His first call, which is now confirmed by the consecration and sending. You are, therefore, called, consecrated, and sent. Gift and mission that empower you through the laying on of hands by the bishop and the prayer of consecration to be a servant of the Gospel in the style of Lord Jesus».
