Student of Mano Amiga wins first place nationally in Biology

Jocksan Villavisencio is a 4th-semester high school student at Colegio Mano Amiga Lerma, and he is 16 years old. He is an enthusiast of sciences and a young person with a strong spirit of self-improvement.

Jocksan just won 1st place at the National Biology Olympiad, where he competed against students from all over the country who are older than him.

Jocksan had previously competed in 3rd year of secondary school in Physics and also achieved 1st place nationally. Later, he competed in 1st year of high school in Biology and obtained 3rd place nationally. However, he was not satisfied and continued working hard, surpassing expectations.

Since early September, Jocksan prepared at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, attending reinforcement classes on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, helping himself by collaborating with some of his classmates to request notes from the classes held at school, as he was always aware that the national Olympiad was an activity outside his regular school studies and that he could not neglect his normal classes.

On January 26th, in Monterrey, the final took place after passing through the regional, district, and state stages, reaching the national level. He competed with 160 students from all over Mexico, and in the state phase, more than 5,000 students from the State of Mexico participated. This is how he achieved 1st place nationally.

Jocksan’s dream is to become a researcher. He wants to study Genomic Sciences and make contributions in the field of science.

Upon arriving at school, days after the contest, he was welcomed with his parents, and now they are preparing for the International Olympiad in Denmark in June and the Ibero-American Olympiad in September of this year.

The Colegios Mano Amiga are advised by Regnum Christi, and are dedicated to the comprehensive educational attention of children and adolescents from low-income backgrounds who study primary, secondary, and high school.
