The survey will be open from December 9, 2019 to January 6, 2020
All General Chapter is an ecclesial event of grace that seeks the renewal of a religious congregation according to its charism, to choose the general superior, and to address the most relevant matters for the life and mission of the institute. On January 20, 2020, the Ordinary General Chapter of the Legion of Christ will take place.
In its preparatory process, not only is it desired to hear the voice of current members, but also those who were part of the congregation as professed members or priests, and who later decided to serve God through another path. To this end, an anonymous survey has been prepared to help the capitular fathers understand the experience of those who left the Legion, their support during the exit process, and the relationship they have maintained with the congregation since then. We believe that their very personal experience can shed light on the path of institutional conversion, improvement in discernment, and accompaniment for everyone.
The survey requests general information that helps frame the data and facilitate its interpretation. It has been prepared in Google Forms, which guarantees anonymity and does not provide the surveyor with any personal information that the respondent does not wish to share. To prevent bots from entering the survey, it is necessary to log into a Google account to respond. This information is not shared with the surveyor.
This survey has been developed and validated by a committee composed of three Legionaries: P. Andreas Schöggl, P. Cristóbal Vilarroig, P. Benjamín Clariond, and some former Legionaries: P. Peter Byrne, P. Thomas Berg, P. Stephen Fichter, Daniel Hennessy, and José Alberto Lesso. They will interpret the information themselves to present it to the capitular fathers.
The link to the survey is being sent to the email accounts of former members available at the general office. Former members can request the link by sending an email to Daniel Hennessy: djhennessy74@gmail.com or to the institutional address lc@legionaries.org. They will also pass the link among themselves.
Participating former members of the congregation in the survey who wish to receive the results can send an email requesting the conclusions to lc@legionaries.org.
We appreciate the interest of those willing to share their experience with us as a help in the ongoing path of renewal and conversion that the Legion must undertake, along with each of its members, for the good of the Church and society.
