On April 20, 2021, Fr. John Connor, LC, announced the appointment of Fr. Gabriel Bárcena, LC, for a second three-year term as the territorial director of the Legionaries of Christ in Chile.
In the same letter, the appointment of Fr. Carlos Alberto Macías, LC, as the first councilor and territorial vicar is announced. The other members of the Territorial Council are also communicated: Fr. Javier Caballero, LC, Fr. Alberto Puértolas, LC, and Fr. Gastón Vicuña, LC.
Thanks were given to Fr. Pablo de Juan, LC, who is ending his term as a councilor in the Chilean Territory.
The new territorial government will begin its three-year term on June 1, 2021.
Fr. Gabriel Bárcena, LC
Fr. Gabriel was born on May 10, 1972, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He entered the Legion of Christ in September 1989. He made his perpetual profession in October 1997. He holds a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on December 22, 2001. He has been a formator of legionaries in Gozzano and Rome (Italy), assistant to the territorial director for apostolate in Mexico (2003-2005) and in Brazil (2005-2011), director of the Santa Isabel School in Barcelona (2011-2015), and delegate of the territorial director for educational centers in Chile (2015-2018).
On April 20, 2021, his appointment for a second three-year term as territorial director of the Legionaries of Christ in Chile was announced, a position he has held since 2018.
Fr. Carlos Alberto Macías Berrueta, LC
Fr. Carlos Alberto was born on August 31, 1969, in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. He has a degree in actuarial science and a master’s in economics and business from the Universidad Anáhuac. He made simple promises in the Consecrated Laity of Regnum Christi in September 1991 and took solemn promises in November 1993. In September 1999, he entered the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ, and in August 2000, he made his first vows. He took perpetual vows in October 2006. He studied classical humanities in Salamanca, Spain. He holds a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.
He was ordained a priest on December 22, 2007. He is currently parish priest of the Santa María de Betania Parish and superior of the Apostolate Community in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since 2019, he has been a territorial counselor.
On April 20, 2021, he was renewed as a counselor for three years and from June 1, 2021, he will also serve as territorial vicar for the Legionaries of Christ in Chile.
Fr. Javier Caballero Acosta, LC
Fr. Javier was born on February 26, 1974, in León, Guanajuato, Mexico. He entered the Novitiate in September 1991 in Salamanca, Spain; in September 1993, he made his first vows in Casale Corte Cerro, Italy. He made his perpetual vows in October 2002. He studied classical humanities in Salamanca, Spain. He holds degrees in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum; a degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome; and completed a master’s in Educational Center Management at the Universidad Anáhuac Mexico, North Campus.
He was ordained a priest on December 24, 2005. Since 2020, he has been the delegate for apostolate in the Chilean Territory.
On April 20, 2021, he was appointed territorial counselor for the Legionaries of Christ in Chile, a position he will assume starting June 1, 2021.
Fr. Alberto Puértolas Gil, LC
Fr. Alberto was born on May 13, 1970, in Barcelona, Spain. He has a degree in business administration and management from the Universidad Internacional de Cataluña. He made simple promises in the Consecrated Laity of Regnum Christi in November 1992 and solemn promises in July 1995.
In January 2011, he joined the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ in Gozzano, Italy. In January 2012, he made his first vows. He made his perpetual vows in December 2014. He holds a degree in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.
He was ordained a priest on December 12, 2015. He currently directs marriage pastoral work in Santiago, Chile, and in 2020, he was appointed territorial counselor.
On April 20, 2021, he was renewed as a territorial counselor for three years for the Legionaries of Christ in Chile, a position he will assume starting June 1, 2021.
Fr. Gastón José Vicuña Larraín, LC
Fr. Gastón was born on January 10, 1983, in Santiago, Chile. He holds a degree in economics and management from the Universidad Anáhuac. He made simple promises in the Consecrated Laity of Regnum Christi in March 2001 and solemn promises in October 2003.
In September 2009, he joined the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ in Monterrey, Mexico. In September 2010, he made his first vows. He made his perpetual vows in September 2013. He holds a degree in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.
He was ordained a deacon on July 2, 2016, and a priest on December 10 of the same year. He is currently the director of one of the youth sections in Santiago, Chile. Since 2019, he has been a territorial counselor.
