Legionaries of Christ collaborate with the Diocese of Sonsonate, in El Salvador, in support of their priests.
Father Dennis Doren, LC, was invited by the communication delegate of the Diocese of Sonsonate (in El Salvador), Father Juan José Ascencio, to give a training talk to the clergy on the topic “Communication in service of Evangelization; and the new Areopagus to discover: social networks.”
They discussed the evangelizing use of the media: “The priest, by identifying with Christ the prophet, is the man of the announcement of the Good News. He is, so to speak, a communicator.
Much of his ministry will be carried out through preaching. It is interesting in this sense to define the communicating priest as a man who goes out to meet others. We are witnessing in this time the transformation of social communication tools; these are conceived as an environment that the Church is called to evangelize also,” commented Father Dennis.
During the training talk, they also reflected on Pope Francis’s messages for the World Communications Day: “The digital network can be a place rich in humanity: not a network of cables, but of human persons” (Pope Francis, Message for the 48th World Communications Day – 2014).
Attending the training talk were Bishop Constantino Barrera of Sonsonate, and 35 priests from the diocese.
