On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Monsignor Jorge Bernal’s birth, a thanksgiving Mass was held on February 27th at the Sacred Heart Cathedral of Chetumal. Present were the current bishop of the Cancún Chetumal Prelature, Pedro Pablo Elizondo, numerous Legionary and diocesan priests, who together gave thanks to God for the gift of Monsignor Bernal’s vocation.
Father José Eduardo delivered the homily, in which he recalled the arduous and noble nature of the priestly vocation. At the end of the Mass, Mons. Elizondo shared an anecdote about how Monsignor Jorge Bernal personally cleaned the church so that a wedding could be celebrated with dignity, setting an example of humility and service.
Mons. Bernal expressed his gratitude for the expressions of affection and took a commemorative photo with the priests who accompanied him on his 90th birthday, who after the Holy Eucharist were invited to dine with him in the Sacred Heart dining hall.
