Recently, in the context of the XXV anniversary of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, a conference was held on the mission that universities have to evangelize culture in light of the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium.
The conference was structured around an opening lecture, a contextual lecture, and some testimonies (guided debates and personal interventions similar to TED talks).
Some of the lectures given during the conference can be listened to in Italian: Dialogue with Culture Based on Identity (Card. Gianfranco Ravasi), The Role of Pontifical Universities in Evangelizing Culture (Mons. Vincenzo Zani), Evangelization of Culture from the Perspective of Christ’s Kingdom (P. José E. Oyarzún, LC), Integral Christian Anthropology (P. Ramón Lucas, LC) Faith and Reason (P. Pedro Barrajón, LC), Call and Encounter – Spanish (P. Jesús Villagrasa, LC), From Seeing to Believing (H. Matthieu Boo D’Arc, LC).
Veritatis Gaudium proposes «dialogue at all levels» (VG 4) as a good criterion for the renewal of ecclesiastical studies. In this regard, and in line with the educational philosophy of the Athenaeum, which aims to pay special «attention to cultural currents and to the problems weighing on man of our time» (Ideario 19), the conference dedicated time to Workshops on some specific issues related to the current cultural dialogue faced by the Athenaeum: Neuroethics; being a man, being a woman; multiculturalism and interreligious dialogue; Science and Faith; the inalienability of metaphysical knowledge in the Christian tradition.
The rectors of the International Network of Universities of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi (RIU) gathered from March 25 to 30 to review the progress of the RIU-LC.RC. strategic plan in the areas of: Catholic identity, rethinking, comprehensive formation, internationalization, research, pastoral care, and accompaniment. Taking advantage of their presence in Rome, they were invited to the conference where they participated in a round table.
The presentations from the round table can be viewed through this link.
