The Father José Enrique Oyarzún was born in Illapel, Chile, on January 9, 1970. He entered the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ in Santiago, Chile, on January 3, 1987, and was ordained a priest on December 22, 2001. He obtained a Diploma in Humanities, a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, and a Doctorate in Theology.
He has taught humanities, philosophy, and theology for several years in Spain, Mexico, and Italy, in addition to collaborating in the formation of future Legionary priests as a prefect of studies and spiritual director. He worked in the general secretariat of the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ from 1996 to 2005 and as an assistant to the general prefecture of studies of the Legion from 2008 to 2010. He was subsequently appointed General Prefect of Studies of the Congregation until 2017.
Since 2006, he has been a professor of dogmatic theology at the Faculty of Theology and at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences, and currently, he is also a visiting professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Teresianum. From 2013 to 2019, he served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and since July 2019, he has been the rector of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.
