The P. Claudio García de Alvear, LC, is a Legionary of Christ priest from Seville. He currently lives in Italy, but has carried out pastoral work for a long time in Spain, mainly in the Regnum Christi schools in Seville and Madrid, where he is remembered with great affection. The father has recently written two books, “GPS of Mercy” and “GPS of Hope”, and during these days he has been in Spain presenting them. In Madrid, the event took place at the Highlands School El Encinar auditorium, where he had the opportunity to reconnect with many friends, present the contents of his works, and answer questions and doubts.
In Seville, Fr. Claudio presented his books at the Valentín de Madariaga Foundation, where his 25th priestly ordination anniversary was also remembered. As a Sevillian, childhood friends attended the presentation, and of course, members of Regnum Christi in Seville.
Fr. Claudio explained in Seville how the inspiration to write “GPS of Hope” came about while preparing a retreat for women in northern Italy, seeing how much the world today needs this theological virtue: “There are days when you wake up with strength, with enthusiasm, work with desire, and others when you work because you have to be there, but without any desire.” However, he explained, “as Christians, God asks us to help Him in each of our places.”
He gave the example of a football match: “When there is hope, when a team fights with desire, the game is played differently than when the team plays without morale. In that case, it’s better for you to be on the bench.”
