Informative Note Number 3 of the 2020 General Chapter

During these past days, as is customary in the development of the general chapters, the diversity and importance of the topics to be addressed have led to the formation of various working commissions. Six thematic commissions have been established: abuses and safe environments; identity of the Legionary of Christ; initial formation until priestly ordination; ongoing formation; vocational promotion; mission and apostolate.

On January 31, Father José Cárdenas, the congregation’s general administrator, presented the management report for the last six-year period. He highlighted, on one hand, the professionalization of management and administration processes, and on the other, the need to train Legionaries in this field. Among other aspects, he emphasized the reduction of debt, progress in improving the sustainability of territories, external audits conducted, and initial steps toward creating a fund for the sick and elderly.

February 1 was dedicated to reviewing recommendations and norms related to sexual abuses and responsibilities of the past, present, and future. The capitular fathers are preparing documents with resolutions being made in this priority area.

On the vigil of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the World Day of Consecrated Life, the capitular fathers participated in the concelebration with the Holy Father, along with the Consecrated, the Laity of Regnum Christi, and many religious from different congregations, renewing their own consecration to Jesus Christ at the tomb of the Apostle Peter and asking for light from the Lord in the face of the challenges of the Chapter.

The remaining days begin with a concelebration at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Around the altar, the capitular fathers live and deepen their communion in Christ. The homilies inspired by the Word of God nourish the capitular work.
On Monday, February 3, the territorial directors began presenting their governance reports.
