Information Note No. 5 of the 2020 General Chapter February 9 – February 15
February 15, 2020
Following the election of the new government, the capitular fathers have focused their work on committee tasks, reviewing legislative texts, some considerations regarding the Regnum Christi Federation, and drafting documents related to the sexual abuse of minors.
Last Wednesday, February 12, the assembly heard two interventions that complemented the general director’s report on the past six-year period: Fr. Jesús Villagrasa, general counselor, presented the development of the educational centers, and Viviana Limón, general counselor of the consecrated members of Regnum Christi and responsible for the life and mission area of Regnum Christi, spoke about the apostolic work, ECYD, and the sections, aiming to identify areas of opportunity and apostolic priorities for the next government of the Regnum Christi Federation.
Mons. José Rodríguez Carballo, O.F.M., secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, presided over the Eucharistic concelebration on Thursday, February 13, and accompanied the capitular fathers during dinner. He emphasized during his homily the three pillars on which all reflection during the General Chapter should be based: the Gospel, the charism reflected in the Constitutions, and the signs of the times. Regarding the issue of minors’ abuse, he called for clarity in discernment as an institution and boldness in implementing the necessary measures.
On February 14, Father David Boix, L.C., passed away at the age of 85. Many capitular fathers attended the International College on the afternoon of Friday, February 14, to watch over his body and to concelebrate the funeral Mass the following day.
Additionally, the consecrated women of Regnum Christi, in order to pray together for the new governments, invited the capitular fathers and the assembly of lay consecrated persons to a Eucharistic concelebration and dinner on the same Friday, February 14, at their general headquarters.
The sentiment in the assembly is that progress has been made in addressing the tasks that presented the greatest urgency, and that in the coming weeks, besides completing the pending resolutions, attention should also be given to other aspects of the Congregation’s life that are of particular interest according to contributions received from both territorial assemblies and individual persons.
