From February 5th to 8th, the first edition of the Semper Altius Award was held in the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco, celebrating the knowledge and good values instilled by the schools of the International Semper Altius Network. In the mathematics, oratory, art, chess, and declamation competitions, among others, the effort of the competitors shone through, including students from a vocational center.
The Vocational Centers of Mexico and Monterrey joined the competition and stood out in the Top Ten in the Am-arte contest, by student Julián Cancino Huerta; Transforming Words, by student Héctor García Vázquez; and in the recognition of one of the top ten best delegations of the event. Gerardo David González from the vocational center of Monterrey also won the gold medal in English in Action for first grade of secondary school.
For the students from the Vocational Center who participated, it was a great experience, not only to compete in various areas of knowledge but also to joyfully share their response to the initial discernment of their vocation with their peers and attending families; in fact, they took advantage of the free time between competitions to greet the families, introduce the Vocational Center, and present the vocational cross, which aims to unite families in prayer for vocations.
Sixty delegations attended the event, including representatives from El Salvador and Colombia. Nearly 3,000 upper elementary and secondary students and around 10,000 participants witnessed these competitions.
Father Eduardo Favila LC, along with Brother Christian Martínez LC, were responsible for the Mexican delegation during the event. Father Joel Herrera LC, rector of the Vocational Center of Mexico, thanked the students for the excellent performance of the eighteen delegates from Mexico at the Semper Altius Award.
The Vocational Centers of the Legion of Christ aim to form young students with maturity appropriate to their age, fully developed and convinced Christians in their faith.
