Father John Connor, LC, announced in a letter dated March 27 the appointment of Father Shawn Aaron, LC, as the new territorial director of the Legionaries of Christ and the North American territory. The appointment of Fathers David Daly, LC, John Bartunek, LC, Juan José Hernández, LC, and Steven Reilly, LC, as territorial counselors was also announced.
The Father Shawn Aaron, LC, was born on January 25, 1968, in Ridgcrest, California, United States. He entered the Legion of Christ Novitiate in Cheshire, Connecticut, on September 15, 1991. During his formation years, he collaborated in the general administration. He made his perpetual profession on November 26, 1999. He was ordained a priest on December 24, 2002. From 2002 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2017, he worked in fundraising in the North American territory and, also from 2007, served as chaplain of Lumen Institute in Manhattan, a position he held until 2017. From 2009 to 2010, he was director of Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville, Georgia. From 2010 to 2013, he served as director of the North American fundraising office. Since 2011, he collaborated as a counselor for the North American territory and, since 2017, was the territorial vicar.
Subsequently, in a letter dated today, it was announced that, starting August 1 of this year, Father Andrea Giustiniani, LC, will be the new territorial director of Italy, replacing Father Manuel Álvarez Vorrath, LC. The territorial council was formed by Fathers Alberto Zanetti, LC (territorial vicar); Claudio García de Alvear, LC, Riccardo Garzari, LC, and Jesús Parreño, LC, who will assume their roles from August 1 of the current year.
Father Andrea Giustiniani, LC, was born on October 20, 1971, in Rome, Italy. He entered the Legion of Christ Novitiate in Gozzano on September 9, 2000, and made his first profession on September 15, 2002. He made his perpetual profession on October 4, 2005.
He was ordained a priest on December 24, 2010. From 2008 to 2011, he collaborated as an assistant at the territorial secretariat of Italy. In 2011, he was a vocations promoter in northern Italy. From 2012 to 2016, he was director of the adult sections in Milan, and since 2016, he has been director of the adult sections in Padua, and since 2018, coordinator of apostolate in the same city.
It was also announced in a letter sent today to the Legionaries of Mexico that Father Alberto Simán, LC, will serve as the territorial director of that territory starting July 1, 2020. His territorial council, which will also take effect on that date, will be composed of Fathers Jorge Fernández Tijerina, LC (territorial vicar); Gerard Heaslip, LC; Pablo Solís, LC, and Rafael Pacaníns, LC.
Father Alberto José Simán, LC, was born on June 16, 1971, in San Salvador, El Salvador. He joined the Regnum Christi Movement in April 1997. He was a collaborator in 1998. He entered the Legion of Christ in September 1999. He made his perpetual profession on October 3, 2004. He was ordained a priest on December 22, 2007. He is an industrial engineer from North Carolina State University and holds a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. From 2002 to 2004, he collaborated in the general administration of the Congregation. From 2004 to 2007, he worked in the general secretariat. From January 2007 to late 2011, he was responsible for the general secretariat. From 2013 to 2018, he served as a formator of Legionaries, two years as an assistant, and three years as rector, at the International College of the Legion of Christ in Rome. Since November 2018, he has served as delegate of the territorial director for the religious life area of Mexico and Central America.
Furthermore, today, it was announced to the Legionaries of Spain that Father Francisco Javier Cereceda, LC, will replace Father Carlos Zancajo, LC, as the territorial director of Spain starting August 1 of this year. His territorial council, which will also come into effect on that date, will be composed of Fathers Pedro Castañera, LC (territorial vicar); Jorge Ranninger, LC; Florencio Sánchez, LC, and Mark Thelen, LC.
