On Saturday, August 13th, the first temporary vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience were taken by 12 Legionary novices in Monterrey.
In an atmosphere of reflection, at the parish of Santa María Reina de todos los Ángeles, in San Pedro Garza García, the young men were accompanied by their families and friends.
During the celebration, Father Carlos Gutiérrez, LC, territorial director of Northern Mexico, expressed special thanks to the parents who have been generous in accepting and responding to God’s will for their children.
“What one offers is returned and multiplied, through the graces He gives us, and this dedication is where two hearts unite, the heart of the person and that of Christ. This is precisely consecration: the union of two hearts to make them grow and bear fruit.” Father Carlos Gutiérrez, LC
What is religious profession?
It is the lived experience of the three vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience in a lifestyle dedicated exclusively to God and His Church. The vows help those who profess them to become more united with Christ, to the life He left us in the Gospel. Specifically, through religious profession, the Legionary of Christ transitions from novice to religious and fully dedicates his life to God. This profession is made for two years, after which they renew their profession until perpetual vows.
What happens to the novices after their religious profession?
Novices become consecrated, meaning they are exclusively dedicated to the things of God. They are completely oriented and devoted to Him. They cease to be laity and become consecrated.
“By God’s grace, a young man can take vows, through personal dedication, trust in God, and above all, through daily spiritual struggle, which keeps you attentive so that grace can act, allowing the evangelical counsels to influence daily life.” César Ornelas González, LC
A group of the newly professed will go to study at the Legionaries of Christ Humanities College in Cheshire, Connecticut, United States. Another group will go to continue their formation in Rome, Italy.
