Appointments of the Regional Director and His Council for Chile

Starting from March 2025, Father Pablo Solís, L.C., will assume the role of new territorial director. The team of counselors was also announced.

Today, April 17, 2024, Father John Connor, L.C., General Director of the Legionaries of Christ, sent a letter to the members of the Chile territory in which he announced the appointment of Father Pablo Solís, L.C., as new territorial director starting March 19, 2025. For this reason, the letter states that “to facilitate an appropriate transition, it has seemed appropriate to extend Father Gabriel Bárcena, L.C.’s, mandate for a few more months, in accordance with canon 186 of the Code of Canon Law”.

In the same letter, it was announced that Father Pablo Solís will serve from July 11, 2024, as the first counselor and territorial vicar. The other members of the Territorial Council were also announced: Father Alberto Puertolas, L.C., and Father Javier Caballero, L.C., who will continue during these months and will be renewed for another three years starting March 19, 2025, along with the appointment of Father Luis María González, L.C.

In his message, Father John thanked Father Carlos Alberto Macías, L.C., and Father Gastón Vicuña, L.C., who are ending their terms as counselors, highlighting their commitment and service.

Father John expressed his gratitude to all the Legionaries of the territory for their participation in the consultation and especially thanked Father Gabriel for all his work as territorial director over these years.

P. Pablo Solís, L.C.
Born in Mexico City on December 16, 1978, into a Catholic family as the second of three siblings. Before becoming a Legionary of Christ, he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Iberoamericana University and worked at Procter & Gamble, Kraft, UAS, and Red Misión.

He entered the Legion of Christ in 2006 at the Novitiate in Monterrey, Mexico, where he made his first vows two years later. In 2008, he moved to Cheshire to undertake a year of humanistic studies. In 2009, he traveled to Rome to collaborate in the General Secretariat of the Congregation and obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. He made his perpetual profession in 2011 in Valencia, Spain, where he collaborated until 2013 as director of the youth section of Regnum Christi. He returned to Rome to study theology and collaborate in the General Secretariat of the Congregation.

He was ordained a priest on December 10, 2016, at the Basilica of San Giovanni Laterano. He began his priestly ministry in Mexico City as director of the youth section at the Universidad Anáhuac Campus Norte. Since January of this year, after the merger of the two youth sections of Poniente, he has served as director of the youth section of the Poniente locality of Regnum Christi. Since 2021, he has supported youth ministry in the territory. In 2020, he was appointed counselor to the territorial director in Mexico and Central America.
P. Gabriel Bárcena, L.C.

Father Gabriel was born on May 10, 1972, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He entered the Legion of Christ in September 1989. He made his perpetual vows in October 1997. He holds a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on December 22, 2001. He has been a formator of Legionaries in Gozzano and Rome (Italy), assistant to the territorial director for apostolate in Mexico (2003-2005) and Brazil (2005-2011), director of the Santa Isabel College in Barcelona (2011-2015), and delegate of the territorial director for educational centers in Chile (2015-2018).

Since 2018, he has served as the territorial director of Chile.
P. Alberto Puértolas Gil, L.C.
Territorial Counselor
Father Alberto was born on May 13, 1970, in Barcelona, Spain. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from the International University of Catalonia. He made simple promises in the Lay Consecrated of Regnum Christi in November 1992 and solemn promises in July 1995. In January 2011, he joined the Novitiate of the Legionaries of Christ in Gozzano, Italy. In January 2012, he made his first religious vows. He took his perpetual vows in December 2014. He is a bachelor in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. He was ordained a priest on December 12, 2015. Currently, he directs marriage ministry in Santiago de Chile and was appointed territorial counselor in 2020.
P. Javier Caballero, L.C.
Territorial Counselor
Father Javier was born on February 26, 1974, in León, Guanajuato, Mexico. He entered the Novitiate in September 1991 in Salamanca, Spain; in September 1993, he made his first vows in Casale Corte Cerro, Italy. He made his perpetual vows in October 2002. He studied classical humanities in Salamanca, Spain. He holds a degree in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum; a degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome; and completed a master’s in Educational Center Management at the Universidad Anáhuac México campus Norte. He was ordained a priest on December 24, 2005. Since 2020, he has been the delegate for apostolate in the Chile territory. Since 2021, he has been collaborating as a territorial counselor for the Legionaries of Christ in Chile.
P. Luis María González, L.C.
Territorial Counselor
Father Luis María González, L.C., was born on September 20, 1969, in Córdoba, Spain. He entered the vocational center of Ontaneda in 1984. Two years later, he began the novitiate in Salamanca, and after his first profession on August 15, 1988, he began studies in humanities. He holds a degree in Philosophy and a bachelor’s in Theology from the Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

He was ordained a priest on December 24, 2002. Since 2003, he has been performing his apostolic ministry in the Chile – Argentina territory as Territorial Administrator, local director of apostolate, community superior, director of sections in Concepción (Chile) and Salta (Argentina), school director, among other roles.
