General Director of the Legion of Christ renews the rector of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum

This renewal applies for the upcoming three-year term, starting July 1, 2025, in accordance with Articles 14, 9°, and 15, §4 of the Statutes of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

The Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum (APRA), P. John Connor, LC, General Director of the Legion of Christ, with the approval of the Dicastery for Culture and Education (Prot. 40/2025-210/2019, January 9, 2025), has confirmed Professor P. José Enrique Oyarzún, LC, as Rector of APRA, a Catholic higher education institution entrusted to the Legion of Christ.

This renewal applies for the upcoming three-year term, starting July 1, 2025, in accordance with Articles 14, 9°, and 15, §4 of the Statutes of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

Fr. José Enrique Oyarzún, LC, is a Legionary of Christ of Chilean nationality. He joined the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ in Santiago on January 3, 1987, and was ordained a priest on December 22, 2001. He earned a Diploma in Humanities, a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, and a Doctorate in Theology.
He has taught humanities, philosophy, and theology for several years in Spain, Mexico, and Italy, as well as collaborating in the formation of future Legionary priests as a prefect of studies and spiritual director. 

He worked in the General Secretariat of the Legion of Christ from 1996 to 2005 and as an assistant to the General Prefecture of Studies of the Legion from 2008 to 2010. He was subsequently appointed General Prefect of Studies of the Congregation, a position he held until 2017.


Since 2006, he has been a professor of dogmatic theology at the Faculty of Theology and the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences, and currently, he is also a visiting professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Teresianum in Rome. From 2013 to 2019, he served as Vice-Rector for Academics, and since July 2019, he has been Rector of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

This is Fr. José Enrique’s third term as Rector of APRA.
