On May 31, 2019, the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life approved the Statutes of Regnum Christi and canonically erected the Federation Regnum Christi. This canonical recognition and the initial approval of the Statutes were the result of a renewal process initiated in 2010, which aimed to clearly express the unity of the charism shared by the Legionaries of Christ, the Consecrated Women, the Consecrated Laity and the Associated Laity.
The Holy See granted an initial approval ad experimentum to the Statutes, validating them and granting a five-year period to allow for the practical experience of what was established. This time has been key to implementing the Federation’s structures and maturing in the living of the charism and mission, growing in unity and collaboration.
In this context, the General Convention of Regnum Christi, held in 2024, adopted the resolution to request definitive approval of the Statutes from the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. The resolution was approved unanimously by the associated laity and by a qualified majority of the delegates.
With great joy and gratitude, the General Governing Council announced through a letter to the members, that the Holy See has definitively approved the Statutes of the Federation Regnum Christi. This official recognition reaffirms the validity of the path taken and strengthens the commitment to live our charism with confidence and boldness, in communion with the Church and in service of the mission.
The General Governing Council expressed its gratitude and highlighted the importance of the Statutes as «a light and criterion for discernment» for the being and acting of all members of the Federation. They also emphasized the call to continue growing in knowledge, understanding, and affective and effective integration of the Statutes, since «they contain the main features of the charism, spirituality, and apostolic mission of the Regnum Christi».
Within the framework of the Jubilee of Hope celebrated by the Church in 2025, this step invites us to move forward with confidence, knowing that, united in Him, we are still called to be witnesses and apostles of Christ in the world.
The Legionaries, as part of Regnum Christi, join in this joy, asking our Mother, the Virgin Mary, to intercede before her son Jesus Christ so that we may continue the evangelizing journey to live the Kingdom of Christ in the world.
