Over time, the Second Vatican Council has been the epicenter of discussions and criticisms, based on misinformation and misinterpretations, which have led some believers to accept or reject it. For this reason, Fr. Matthew Schneider, L.C., has written an article about this important event in the Catholic Church prior to the release of the Podcast “Vatican II in One Year,” with the goal of providing true and objective information and explanation.
I have seen many people misinterpret Vatican II. I have heard completely opposite explanations about it. I have seen people accept or reject a false image of the council. For years, Vatican II has been the most discussed topic in Catholic circles, despite how little it has actually been read.
I wanted to respond to this because the controversy seemed inappropriate to me, as it would only lead to conflicting interpretations. Instead, I was inspired by other “in a year” style podcasts and decided to read it in full, offering a brief explanation throughout the year. Reading Vatican II may seem overwhelming, but breaking it into parts reduces it to about 425 words per day. With my extensive experience explaining Catholic teachings to the faithful online, I thought I could be the ideal candidate to read and explain it. I reached this conclusion in fall 2023. I realized that 2025 would be the ideal year to do it, as it marks 60 years since the council’s conclusion.

I presented the project to several Catholic groups and was about to do it on my own when StarQuest decided to support it. StarQuest does not pay me, and my community depends on donations, so I would greatly appreciate it if you could become a monthly sponsor or make a one-time donation to support my work.
I could call this a “Vatican-approved” podcast, but only in the broadest sense, and I don’t think it would be entirely honest. Months ago, when I contacted various Catholic media about the project, they asked me about permissions. The Vatican and the USCCB have taken action in the past against those who use copyrighted materials without permission. Some Paulinian Sisters helped me contact the right person at the Vatican, and I paid for the rights to publish the documents of Vatican II (as they appear on the Vatican website) in podcast format throughout 2025.
I am publishing this right as I launch the podcast. You can find more information on the mini-site I created within my website. There, you have subscription options and a reading plan for the podcast. I will also be adding playlists as episodes are published.
