Fr. John Lane Connor, L.C.

General Director of the Legionaries of Christ | 2020-2026

He was born on February 15, 1968, in Severna Park, Maryland, United States. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Loyola University Maryland in 1990.

He entered the Novitiate of the Legionaries of Christ on September 15, 1991, in Roetgen, Germany. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as a formator at Everest School Monteclaro in Madrid. He made his perpetual profession on May 1, 2000, and was ordained a priest on January 2, 2001, in Rome. From his ordination until 2004, he collaborated in the Fundraising office on the East Coast of the United States. From 2004 to 2010, he was the local coordinator of the apostolate in New York City and helped in the founding and direction of the Lumen Institute apostolate. From 2009 to 2010, he was superior of the New York apostolate community. From 2010 to 2011, he was the territorial director for Atlanta. Later, from 2011 to 2014, he worked as an assistant for the apostolate in North America.

Since 2014, he has been the territorial director of the Legionaries of Christ and a member of the Territorial Governing College of Regnum Christi in North America. On February 6, 2020, he was elected the General Director of the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ.

General Director

The General Director is responsible for governing the Congregation in such a way that it preserves its spiritual heritage and fulfills its mission in the Church, according to the will of God. Therefore, his priorities are:

  1. To foster with special care the life of prayer, fervor, good spirit, integral formation, fraternal life in community, and the perseverance of the members;
  2. To drive the consolidation, projection, and expansion of the apostolate;
  3. To promote the vocational pastoral work of the Legion and the other members of Regnum Christi.

Competencies

The General Director is responsible for governing the Congregation in such a way that it preserves its spiritual heritage and fulfills its mission in the Church.

  1. To foster with special care the life of prayer, fervor, good spirit, integral formation, fraternal life in community, and the perseverance of the members;
  2. To drive the consolidation, projection, and expansion of the apostolate;
  3. To promote the vocational pastoral work of the Legionaries of Christ and Regnum Christi. To implement the guidelines and directives given by the General Chapter;
  4. To ensure that all, especially territorial directors, rectors, superiors, and formators, fulfill their responsibilities according to the proper law;
  5. To promote the consolidation, expansion, and institutional unity of Regnum Christi and work closely with its competent bodies regarding the preservation of the spirit, planning, apostolate, and economy;
  6. To consolidate the stable assets of the Congregation, oversee the management of goods, and promote sound financial practices;
  7. To promote appropriate institutional communication.
