We are a religious congregation formed by priests and candidates for the priesthood founded in 1941. As of 2020, our family is composed of 4 bishops, 975 priests, and 453 seminarians worldwide.
Our spirit is contemplative and evangelizing. We promote evangelical creativity both among ourselves and with the laypeople we serve. We profess a deep love for the Pope, Vicar of Christ, and for the bishops, and we seek to integrate ourselves into the pastoral work of the local Church where we are.
Our motto, “Come Your Kingdom!” expresses the desire for Christ to reign in the hearts of men, families, and society. To achieve this, we collaborate with other members of the Church and with people of good will so that this Kingdom becomes a reality.
Ultimately, we want to do everything for the Kingdom of Christ to the Glory of God.
What is the spirituality of the Legionaries of Christ
Our spirituality is Christocentric. Jesus Christ is the center, the criterion of pastoral action, and our model of religious, priestly, and apostolic life. We seek to know Him through the Eucharist, the Gospel, the Cross, and selfless service to others. Likewise, we profess devotion to the Sacred Heart as a path to form the priestly heart.
The charity preached and lived by Christ in the Gospel inspires us to universal giving in our priestly service. And under the motto “Come Your Kingdom!” we express the ideal that guides our pastoral efforts, living the urgency of the mission so that Christ may be known in all environments.
Furthermore, the Legionaries seek to be contemplative and evangelizing, profess unconditional love for the Church and the Pope, cultivate filial love for Our Most Holy Virgin Mary, and highly value the vocation received within the great spiritual family of Regnum Christi.
Being a Legionary Priest of Christ
When God calls, the invitation to a lifestyle that requires discernment is perceived in the heart, to first see if God is calling, and then to know where He is calling.
Like all vocations, the call to join the Legion of Christ is a free invitation from God. Saint John Paul II said that vocation is a “gift and mystery,” for it is God who calls whom He wills, when He wills, and where He wills. Prayer, regular reception of the sacraments, reading the Word of God, and spiritual direction are very suitable means to discover one’s vocation.
The response to this call arises from the generosity of the heart in an environment of inner freedom.
