It is located south of Rome and is one of the four major basilicas of the city. It was built in the 4th century, under Emperor Constantine, on the site where it is believed the apostle Saint Paul was buried. The basilica is famous for its monumental architecture, with a central nave surrounded by Corinthian columns and a beautiful mosaic in the apse depicting Christ.
Card. Farrell was born in 1947 in Dublin, Ireland, and is a cardinal of the Catholic Church. Ordained a priest in 1978, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Washington in 2001 and bishop of Dallas in 2007. In 2016, Pope Francis appointed him prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life. He was made a cardinal in November 2016. He is the current Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church.
